Cairo – Ma’an – Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi stressed that the time has come to end the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip and to resort to the voice of reason and wisdom and to uphold the language of peace and diplomacy, stressing the danger of the conflict expanding regionally in a way that is difficult to imagine its consequences.
This came during his reception of US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, today, Tuesday, in the presence of Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aati, and Head of Egyptian General Intelligence, Major General Abbas Kamel.
Egyptian presidential spokesman Counselor Ahmed Fahmy said that the meeting stressed the need to push forward joint efforts to restore security and stability in the region. The Egyptian president also stressed that stopping the bloodshed of peoples should be the main driver for all parties, and that the ceasefire in Gaza should be the beginning of broader international recognition of the Palestinian state and the implementation of the two-state solution,
as this is the main guarantor of stability in the region.
The joint mediation efforts of “Egyptian-American-Qatari” to cease fire in Gaza and exchange detainees were reviewed, as views were exchanged on the results of the last negotiating meeting held last week in Doha, and ways to move the situation and achieve progress in the ongoing negotiations in Cairo.
In turn, Blinken briefed the Egyptian President on the results of his visit to Israel, stressing the United States’ commitment to efforts to calm the situation and reach an agreement, expressing great appreciation for Egypt’s role and constructive efforts in this regard.
