Egyptian Foreign Minister: The Israeli government has not yet taken a position that allows the opening of the Rafah crossing from the Gaza side

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry confirmed on Monday that the Israeli government has unfortunately not yet taken a position that would allow for the possibility of opening the crossing from the Gaza side. To allow the entry of aid or the exit of citizens from third countries.

This came in response to a question about conflicting information about the opening of the Rafah crossing to deliver humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip and the exit of foreigners, during the joint press conference with his French counterpart, Catherine Colonna.

Shukri explained that we are fully prepared and all Egyptian agencies at the crossing are on alert to bring in aid and the exit of citizens of third countries, and also that the crossing is operating at its normal pace to bring in the medical needs of our Palestinian brothers… expressing hope for a breakthrough in this regard.

Shukri said that Egypt has been seeking, since the beginning of the outbreak of the crisis in Gaza, to make the Rafah crossing operational and allow the entry of humanitarian aid, a large number of which was collected in Al-Arish. Egypt is working in full coordination with United Nations organizations and the Red Cross to bring in the aid that is increasingly needed. To alleviate the suffering of civilians and the Palestinian people in Gaza.

He pointed out that he had a telephone conversation with the UN envoy, who was inquiring whether the contacts that had been made yesterday had yielded results, but unfortunately so far there is nothing new in this regard, and this is a dangerous matter in view of the severe need that the Palestinian people in Gaza are facing, as there is no Water, medical supplies, or food, and the displacement led to additional pressures, as there is no shelter for those who were forced to flee from northern Gaza. All of these are humanitarian matters related to international humanitarian law and must be respected and observed.
