FIUJI: Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration, held a significant meeting with Andrii Sybiha, the Ukrainian Foreign Minister, on the sidelines of the G7 meetings in Fiuji, Italy. The meeting, which took place on Monday, November 25, aimed to strengthen the bilateral ties between the two nations.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Ambassador Tamim Khlaif, the official spokesperson for Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reported that Minister Abdelatty praised the robust relationship between Egypt and Ukraine. He expressed enthusiasm for conducting the next round of political consultations to rejuvenate existing cooperation frameworks. Additionally, he highlighted plans to convene the joint Egyptian-Ukrainian committee for economic, scientific, and technical cooperation.
The dialogue between the two ministers also addressed critical issues such as global food security. Minister Abdelatty underscored Egypt’s keen interest in facilitating the resumption of agricultur
al exports from Ukraine to international markets, with a particular focus on grain exports.
Minister Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s dedication to enhancing trade and economic ties with Ukraine. He pointed out that Egypt stands as Ukraine’s leading trading partner in Africa and the Middle East. Further areas for collaboration were identified, including gas, construction and development, energy, communications, information technology, and industrial localization.
The discussion also ventured into the possibility of establishing trilateral cooperation among Egypt, Ukraine, and Africa. This initiative would capitalize on Egypt’s strategic position as a conduit for exports and investments into African markets.
Addressing the ongoing Ukraine crisis, Minister Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s position, which emphasizes adherence to international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter. He highlighted the importance of resolving the crisis through negotiations that are mutually beneficial. Egypt’s involvemen
t in initiatives such as the African leaders’ initiative, the Arab Contact Group on the crisis, and participation in the Brazilian-Chinese ministerial initiative at the United Nations General Assembly was also emphasized.
