Egyptian fencer Nada Hafez has secured her spot in the last 16 of the Sabre Individual Women’s event after triumphing over Elizabeth Tartakovsky of the USA with a score of 15-13 on Monday.

Ranked 26th in the world, Hafez commenced Egypt’s Monday campaign at the 2024 Paris Olympics with a remarkable feat, besting the 7th-ranked Tartakovsky.

The 26-year-old athlete will next face Korea’s Hayoung Jeon in the last 16 round to be held early Monday, a pivotal match that will determine her fate in the competition.

This marks Hafez’s third Olympic appearance, having previously participated in Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020, where she was eliminated in the rounds of 64 and 32, respectively.

In a parallel match, world number 10 Hayoung Jeon of Korea emerged victorious against Alina Komashchuk of Ukraine in the Round of 32.
