Egyptian Ambassador to Belgium Badr Abdel Aati discussed Monday with First Vice-President of the European Parliament Othmar Karas a number of important issues that concern the two sides.
They tackled measures taken by the Egyptian government to attain comprehensive development in the political, economic, social and cultural fields.
Abdel Aati probed with Karas promoting the human rights system and safeguarding main freedoms, highlighting the National Strategy for Human Rights and the launch of the Political National Dialogue in Egypt as well as the work of the Presidential Amnesty Committee.
They affirmed the strong momentum in joint relations binding Egypt and the EU, based on the principles of partnership and mutual respect.
The meeting discussed the negative repercussions of the Ukrainian crisis for African countries, topped by Egypt as the largest importer of grains in the world, with special focus on food security and hikes in prices of basic goods and the importance of the EU to double necessary backing for facing these bad impacts.
They underscored the vital role Egypt plays in boosting security and stability in the region and the Egyptian efforts as far as regional and international issues are concerned, including the Palestinian cause and the crisis in Libya, in addition to Egypt’s greater achievements in combating illegal migration and terrorism.
Shifting to cooperation between the EU and the African continent, the two sides underlined the significance of fulfilling the outputs of the AU-EU summit, held in Brussels in February 2020.
