Egyptian athlete Ahmed Elgendy achieved an Olympic record by amassing 1516 points in the Men’s Modern Pentathlon, securing a spot in the event’s final on Friday 9/8/2024.

Elgendy, 24, surpassed British athlete Joseph Choong’s record by 34 points, which Choong had set during the Tokyo 2020 Games.

Starting the day with 245 points and securing second place in pool A, Elgendy later finished 17th in the Men’s Modern Pentathlon riding show jumping semi-final with 267 points.

Following a strong performance in the semi-final A of the swimming 200m freestyle, where he garnered 311 points, Elgendy’s total score reached 823 points.

In a remarkable display, he excelled in the Men’s Individual Laser Run semi-final A, setting both a total and Olympic record of 1516 points, thereby earning a spot in the Modern Pentathlon final.

Elgendy, an Olympic medalist, stands as a beacon of hope for Egypt’s medal prospects in Paris. He made history by securing Egypt’s first silver medal in Modern Pentathlon.
