Cairo: A phone call took place on Saturday between Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, and Hakan Fidan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey, where they discussed the developments in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea. The call was part of ongoing communication between the two nations to address the situation in the Gaza Strip.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the ministers deliberated on efforts to reinstate the ceasefire agreement and ensure the execution of its three phases. These phases include the release of hostages and prisoners and facilitating the entry of humanitarian, medical, and shelter aid into Gaza, despite the recent Israeli escalation in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. The conversation highlighted Israel’s continued military actions against civilians and its blockade on humanitarian aid to Gaza.
The discussion also covered the situation in Sudan, with Minister Abdelatty underscoring Egypt’s support for Sudanese national institutions in their quest for stability and peace. He reiterated Egypt’s stance on respecting Sudan’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.
Furthermore, the call addressed ongoing issues in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea region, focusing on security and stability in Somalia. The Egyptian Foreign Minister affirmed the country’s support for Somalia in counter-terrorism efforts and in boosting the Somali National Army’s capabilities. Abdelatty also expressed Egypt’s opposition to any involvement of non-Red Sea states in the region’s security and governance arrangements.
