Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs Badr Abdelatty is set to host his Malian counterpart Abdoulaye Diop on Sunday at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the New Administrative Capital. The agenda includes a bilateral meeting, an expanded discussion session, and a joint press conference, as confirmed by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry on Saturday.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the ministers will address key issues of mutual interest and pressing international matters. The meeting follows a prior engagement in September during the high-level segment of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. During that meeting, Abdelatty highlighted Egypt’s strategic approach to regional challenges and its support for national governments and state institutions in maintaining security and stability, countering terrorist threats, and asserting territorial control.
Additionally, Abdelatty and Diop discussed recent develop
ments in the Sahel region and West Africa, explored avenues for bilateral cooperation, and committed to enhancing coordination on regional and international concerns. Trade between Egypt and the Sahel and Sahara States, including Mali, has seen a notable increase of 10.2 percent, reaching $6.5 billion in 2023, up from $5.9 billion in 2022, as reported by the Egyptian State Information Service.
