Cairo: In a bid to de-escalate tensions in the Middle East, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration, spoke with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on November 3. The ministers discussed the escalating regional crisis, particularly focusing on developments in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reported that Minister Abdelatty stressed the need for all regional parties to take steps to prevent further escalation and to promote calm. He warned against dragging the region into a conflict that would serve no one’s interests and could lead to severe consequences for its people. Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s condemnation of unilateral and provocative actions that threaten regional security and stability, highlighting the potential for dire repercussions.
The discussions also covered the situation in Lebanon, including efforts to halt Israeli aggression against th
e country. Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s stance on empowering Lebanese state institutions and facilitating the election of a consensual president, in line with Lebanon’s sovereignty and without external interference.
Furthermore, he detailed Egypt’s ongoing coordination with Qatar and the United States to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza, ensure the full and unconditional delivery of humanitarian and medical aid, and secure the release of hostages. He underscored the necessity for the international community to unite in efforts to halt the violence and address the catastrophic humanitarian crisis facing the region.
