Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) Osama Rabie asserted Sunday on taking serious steps towards the green transition, as part of SCA ambitious strategy to transform the Suez Canal into a green waterway by 2030.
Rabie made his remarks during his meeting with American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) Senior Vice President Vassilios Kroustallis and other officials, where they discussed reinforcing cooperation between the SCA and ABS.
The meeting probed benefiting from the ABS expertise in the fields of training, and technical consultations for developing SCA facilities.
Rabie said that SCA planned to offer incentives for the eco-friendly ships as part of the International Maritime Organization (IOM) calls for preserving the marine environment, a move to be declared during the COP 27, slated to be held in November in Sharm el Sheikh.
This comes in parallel with SCA plans to use the clean solar and wind energies instead of the conventional fuel in operating SCA facilites and units, he added.
Kroustallis, for his part, expressed ABS desire for enhancing ties with SCA, praising their measures for achieving the environmental sustainability.
