Environment Minister Yasmin Fouad said on Sunday Egypt and the UAE are cooperating in sending an important message to the world by shedding light on the importance of waste file and its impacts on producing emissions that cause climate change.
Speaking during a press conference on announcing a cooperation protocol on collecting solid waste in Sharm El-Sheikh, Fouad noted Egypt, in cooperation with the UAE, is implementing a national waste system in Sharm El-Sheikh in light of its host of the UN climate conference (COP27).
Fouad pointed out that the past nine months had witnessed the studying of the situation in the Red Sea resort city to outline an appropriate work plan for solid waste management, underlining that all equipment used in the system will be operated by electricity and solar power.
She also pointed to the role of bedouins in working and managing the system, adding that the work will include raising the awareness of the society to ensure their participation in the system not only in collecting and moving the waste.
The minister thanked South Sinai Governor Khaled Fouda for his support in establishing 35 environmental projects in the city.
