Ahead of the UN climate conference in November, COP27, the Egyptian presidency of the conference, in cooperation with UN regional committees and UN High-Level Climate Champions, will hold regional forums to accelerate funding for projects aiming to reduce emissions and increase resilience in face of climate change.
The Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Bonn said in a press release that ahead of the UN climate conference in Sharm El-Sheikh, five regional forums will be held in the regions of the Middle East, Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, UN Special Envoy for Climate Action and Finance Mark Carney, and Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations Amina Mohammed will attend the forums.
The African Group of Negotiators has called for $1.3 trillion every year to fund climate action from 2025.
The regional forums will be held in Addis Ababa on August 2-4, Thailand on August 25, Santiago on September 1-2, Beirut on September 15, and Geneva on September 20.
