Egypt to Lead Delegation for G20 Summit Preparations in Brazil.

Cairo: Egypt will be represented by a delegation headed by Ambassador Ragi El-Atrebi, Assistant Foreign Minister and Personal Representative of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to both the G20 and BRICS, at this week’s preparatory meetings for the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The summit is scheduled for November 18-19, 2024. El-Atrebi, along with other personal representatives, will engage in negotiations over the final communiqué that is expected to be released at the conclusion of the summit.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Ambassador El-Atrebi highlighted that Egypt’s participation in the Rio summit will mark its fourth participation at G20 meetings since the group’s inception. This invitation, extended by Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, underscores Egypt’s growing influence on both the regional and global levels. El-Atrebi noted that Egypt’s involvement in the G20 reflects its leadership in advocating for the interests of developing nations-particularly those in the Ar
ab and African regions-on key economic and political issues. It also reflects the strong historical ties between Egypt and Brazil, with both countries eager to deepen their bilateral relationship across various sectors.

While the G20 is primarily focused on economic issues, El-Atrebi pointed out that ongoing geopolitical conflicts, particularly Israel’s aggression against Palestinian and Lebanese territories, are expected to dominate discussions at the summit. He emphasized that the G20 recognizes Egypt’s continuous efforts to end the war and prevent its further escalation.

The ambassador also stated that, in line with presidential directives, Egypt has actively engaged in G20 meetings this year, working to maximize its national economic interests. Egypt’s priorities have included building political will among G20 members to take necessary measures that address the economic challenges facing developing countries, particularly in light of successive global crises.
