Meetings of the Egyptian-South African committee kicked off on Tuesday 24/5/2022 at the level senior officials.
In a statement posted on its Facebook page, the Foreign Ministry said the meetings were chaired by Ambassador Sherif Essa, Assistant Foreign Minister for African Affairs, and Ambassador Fadel Nasr El-Din, Deputy Foreign Minister and Director of the North Africa and Middle East Department at the South African Foreign Ministry.
Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and his South African counterpart Naledi Pandor will co-chair on Wednesday the committee’s ministerial-level talks, the statement added.
Today’s meetings, attended by 17 experts from Egyptian and South African government bodies, tackled ways of fostering bilateral cooperation in political, economic, trade and scientific areas, the statement noted.
The two parties asserted the importance of stepping up efforts aimed at boosting joint investments and sharing experience in the fields of space, libraries, transportation, culture, training and capacity-building.
Concerning the international situation, the two sides exchanged views on the current challenges facing the world, notably the food security issue.
They also mulled several issues of concern to the African continent, including the fight against terrorism, political instability, extremism, illegal migration, human trafficking and the coronavirus pandemic, the statement concluded.
