Cairo: Egypt has expressed a keen interest in collaborating with Oman on infrastructure and seaport development. Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, Badr Abdelatty, met with Omani Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, Qais al-Youssef, on Monday to discuss enhancing economic cooperation and exploring promising investment opportunities.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Minister Abdelatty praised Oman’s progress towards its 2040 Vision, which includes significant economic reforms. He highlighted several areas where Egypt is particularly interested in cooperation, including renewable energy, green hydrogen, maritime transport, logistics, food industries, pharmaceuticals, and the manufacturing of medical devices.
Furthermore, the Egyptian minister expressed a desire to foster collaboration between the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCzone) and the Special Economic Zone at Duqm (SEZD). He proposed establishing links between Oman’s ports of Duqm and Salalah and Egypt’s ports of Alexandria and Ain Sokhna, among others, to leverage the strategic locations of both countries along key waterways and straits.
Minister Abdelatty also emphasized the importance of facilitating partnerships between the business communities of both nations, taking advantage of common free trade agreements. He highlighted potential collaboration on national projects, particularly in road construction, railways, urban development, smart city building, and other infrastructure endeavors. Abdelatty expressed optimism about Egyptian companies’ participation in the large-scale projects Oman plans to undertake in the near future.
