Cairo: Egypt’s national football team ended Friday’s match with a 1-1 tie against Cape Verde in the fifth round of AFCON qualifiers.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Al Ahly winger Taher Mohamed scored Egypt’s first goal in the 31st minute, but Cape Verde equalized through winger Ryan Mendes from a penalty kick in the 63rd minute. Egypt are set to host Botswana on Tuesday at the Military Academy Stadium to wrap up their AFCON 2025 qualifying matches.
On October 15, Egypt secured a berth at the CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 after defeating Mauritania 1-0, marking their fourth consecutive victory in Group C of the qualifiers. Ibrahim Adel netted a late winner for Egypt with a stunning long-range goal with just five minutes left in the match. After this win, Egypt extended its unbeaten run in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers to lead Group C with 12 points.
