Deputy Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Migration, Refugees and Combating Human Trafficking Wael Badawi has emphasized Egypt’s commitment to meeting its international obligations towards refugees and immigrants.

Badawi made the remarks during his participation in the Vienna Migration Conference.

The deputy assistant foreign minister said he reviewed the Egyptian state’s efforts to receive and provide the necessary services to more than 10 million immigrants and refugees, and the burdens it bears in this regard despite the economic challenges emanating from regional and international crises.

He emphasized the importance of adopting a comprehensive approach to migration issues that take into account maintaining balance among all relevant dimensions, most notably the humanitarian and development ones, and dealing with the root causes of migration.

The approach shall encompass not focusing on the combat of illegal migration, given that migration can support development efforts in source, transit and
destination countries, he added.
