Cairo: Assistant Foreign Minister for Cultural Relations Yasser Shaaban handed over 67 artifacts that Egypt recovered from Germany through its embassy in Berlin to a committee formed by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities. This marks a significant step in Egypt’s efforts to reclaim its lost antiquities from abroad, showcasing the nation’s dedication to preserving its cultural heritage.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, has been instrumental in the recovery of these artifacts. They work closely with Egypt’s diplomatic and consular missions globally to retrieve artifacts that have been smuggled out of the country. This ongoing initiative underscores the commitment of Egyptian institutions to safeguard the nation’s historical assets.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the restored artifacts span various periods of Egyptian history. Among the items recovered are a mummified leg and foot, t
wo masks, and two wall reliefs from a vizier tomb in Saqqara, dating back to the 26th dynasty. The collection also includes a royal bronze statue, a set of small ushabti statues designed to serve the deceased in the afterlife as per ancient Egyptian beliefs, and bronze statues of Osiris, the Ancient Egyptian God of The Dead and The Underworld.
