Egypt has received 30 injured Palestinians from the embattled Gaza Strip through the Rafah border crossing for treatment in Egyptian hospitals, an Egyptian source told the country’s state news agency MENA on Monday.

The crossing was also open for the evacuation of 100 foreigners – holding Canadian, Cypriot, and Turkish nationalities – from Gaza and for the entry of nine UN staffers and 39 others representing other international organizations into the strip.

Since 7 October, Egypt has received dozens of Palestinians wounded in the Israeli aggression on Gaza to receive treatment at its hospitals as Israel’s ongoing war has rendered most of the medical facilities in the strip nonfunctional.

In November 2023, the Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population launched an initiative to treat 1,000 children wounded in Israel’s attack on the Gaza Strip.

Israel has so far killed over 25,000 Palestinians, most of whom are children and women, and wounded thousands more in nearly three and a half months.

Egypt has bee
n pushing for an extended ceasefire in the war-torn strip and sustained access to humanitarian aid to alleviate the suffering of civilians there.
