Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Khaled Abdel Ghaffar said Egypt’s international ranking in scientific publishing for the year 2021 has advanced two places, ranking 26th globally, out of a total of 232 countries, compared to being the 28th in 2020, according to the ScImago classification for scientific publication issued in April.
In a statement issued Sunday, the minister said Egypt’s scientific publications reached a total of 38,651 researches in 2021 compared to 31,786 in 2020, with an increase of 21.6%, attesting to the ministry’s strategy to encourage international scientific publications that highly affect an overhauling scheme of the higher education and scientific research field in Egypt.
For his part, Dr. Adel Abdel Ghaffar, Media Adviser and Official Spokesman for the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research said the tangible progress Egyptian universities and research centers witnessed in the field of international publications is attributed to the ministry’s great technical support and training offered in this regard, including incentivizing publishers, providing internet access to researchers, along with cooperation with The Egyptian Knowledge Bank (EKB).
Meantime, he pointed out that universities and research centers’ scientific research publications in Egypt would notably increase within he upcoming stage, in light of the ministry’s plan to support researchers in the international publishing domain.
The SCImago Journal & Country Rank is a publicly available portal that includes the journals and country scientific indicators developed from the information contained in the Scopus® database (Elsevier B.V.).
