Finance Minister Mohamed Maait said on Monday that Egypt came first in the Middle East on the Global Data Barometer (GDB) index for open budgets of financial statements.
In a press release, the minister said that index is a specialized questionnaire compiled by the UN Population Fund (UNFPA), the Global Initiative for Fiscal Transparency (GIFT), the International Budget Partnership (IBP), the World Bank and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
It aims at providing necessary data for pressing issues and evaluating countries using a set of robust benchmarks, the minister said.
He added that the index helps decision makers to reduce risks resulting from global challenges.
