Cairo: The National Council of Wages (NCW) has announced an increase in the minimum wage for private sector workers to EGP 7,000, with the change set to take effect on 1 March 2025. This adjustment is a part of the council’s ongoing efforts to improve the living standards of workers in the private sector.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the NCW also decided on an annual periodic raise for private sector employees. This raise will be a minimum of 3 percent of their social insurance wage, ensuring at least an additional 250 EGP per month. Furthermore, the council has introduced a minimum hourly wage for part-time workers at 28 EGP per hour, marking a significant development as it adheres to definitions set in the Labour Law.
This recent wage increase represents the sixth adjustment in the past three years. The previous increase occurred in April 2024, when the minimum wage was raised from EGP 3,500 to EGP 6,000. The upward trend in wage adjustments began in January 2022, with increments from EGP 2,400 to EGP 2,700 in January 2023, then to EGP 3,000 in July 2023, and further to EGP 3,500 in January 2024.
