The Ministry of Youth and Sports announced on Thursday details of the Pyramids Half Marathon, set for December 11, at the Giza Plateau under the auspices of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.
The event is organized by The TriFactory group, which invited runners from around the world to #RaceThroughHistory at the most iconic of locations: the Great Pyramids of Giza. Egypt’s signature running event features three classic distances, 5K, 10K, & 21K, meaning runners of all ages and abilities can take part and run through 5000 years of history.
As many as 4,000 athletes comprising 85 nationalities from the various world countries are expected to participate at the marathon.
Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhi has tasked his assistant Abdel Awal Mohamed and Director General of Sport Tourism Ahmed Abdel Khaleq to attend the press conference to announce the details of the marathon.
He said The Pyramids Half Marathon is open to all runners, regardless of age or ability. There is no entrance criteria or qualification necessary for registration. The minimum age for the 5K race is 8 years, for the 10K it is 12 years, and for the 21k distance it is 14 years old. Age is calculated based on year of birth.
The Pyramids Half Marathon will be organized in accordance with international standards and the rules and regulations set forth by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), the Egyptian Athletics Federation, and The TriFactory. Doping controls will be regulated by the relevant authorities and the Race Organizer reserves the right to request random drug testing of any athlete at the event.
