Egypt launches its first digitized tour guide services for tourist with special needs


The Ministry of Social Solidarity, represented by the Association for Social Rehabilitation of the Disabled in Helwan, signed a cooperation protocol with Micro Lab to launch Egypt’s first ever service to digitize tour guidance services to help people with special needs identify archaeological landmarks through the SCAN2KNOW application.

The protocol aims to provide application services in sign language to help people with motor, hearing and visual issues more easily engage in tourism.

The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Solidarity, Samah Ahmed, explained that the protocol contributes to providing information about all archaeological sites for people with special needs with a detailed explanation in several languages, including sign language to assist the hearing impaired.

It also allows them to be employed in tourist facilities according to the employment rate approved by the state at five percent for people with special needs.

The founder of the SCAN2KNOW app, Mohamed Belal, explained that the p
latform’s services include granting trip offers from tourist companies with the possibility of booking and direct communication with them, in addition to providing a comprehensive guide to all tourist facilities, including hotels, shops, restaurants and centers.

Belal also revealed that a digital guidance service will be provided in five languages to explain archaeological sites to tourists of different nationalities.

And in a first, the app will provide an electronic platform for tourist guides accredited by the Ministry of Tourism.

Tourists will receive a discount from tourist stores contracted with the application according to the percentages specified with the participating parties.

The app will also review the most famous events, occasions and festivals will also be displayed periodically.
