Irrigation Minister Mohamed Abdel Aati asserted his keenness on following up the cooperation file with Iraq in the field of water resources and irrigation in light of a memorandum of understanding inked between Egypt and Iraq.

This came during a meeting Abdel Aati held Monday with Ministry of Irrigation officials to discuss the outcome of the visit by an Egyptian delegation to Iraq and present a report on the establishment of a sanitation treatment station in Iraq on the lines of Bahr el Baqar sanitation station to desalinate the Euphrates water to face water scarcity in Nasiriyah, Diwaniyah and Basra.

This also comes in light of an agreement reached earlier with Iraqi Minister of Water Resources Mahdi Rashid Mahdi on exchanging techincal visits between both countries to benefit from the Egyptian experiment in the field of water management, Abdel Aati said.

Abdel Aati asserted Egypt was keen on participating in the Baghdad International Water Conference that was held in 2021 and 2022 and referred to the participation of the Iraqi water resources minister in the Cairo Water Week that is held in October every year.

These technical visits come to reflect the necessity to achieve cooperation and coordination between Egypt and Iraq to reach the goals of both peoples in sustainable development and perfect management of water resources especially in light of water challenges faced in Egypt and Iraq, he said.

There is cooperation between Egypt and Iraq in the fields of water resources especially exchanging expertise in the fields of adaptation with climate change, water recycling, cleaning drains and increasing capabilities, he said.
