Egypt, Italy mull ways to cement solid waste management cooperation


Egypt and Italy have discussed means to boost cooperation in the field of solid waste management.

International Cooperation Minister Rania Mashat and Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad on Saturday 15/06/2024 held a videoconference meeting with Italy’s ambassador in Cairo Michele Quaroni and officials from the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation.

They considered ways to strengthen solid waste management cooperation under the Italian-Egyptian Debt Swap Program (IEDS).

El Mashat lauded close ties between Egypt and Italy since 1970, noting that her ministry is keen to enhance coordination with the Italian side in different domains.

For her part, Fouad shed light on the government’s efforts on developing waste sector and establishing waste system infrastructure at a EGP 9 billion investments.

For his part, Quaroni said his country is keen to complete joint cooperation programs with Egypt to serve environment and protect natural resources.
