Minister of Education and Technical Education Tarek Shawki and German Ambassador in Cairo Frank Hartmann reviewed on Monday how to improve pre-university education in Egypt, making use of Germany’s broad experience.
During a meeting with the German diplomat, Shawki highlighted ongoing joint cooperation projects, especially those financed by Germany’s KfW Development Bank, for enhancing the quality of pre-university education in Egypt, including a project to establish the Quality Assurance and Accreditation National Authority (ETQAAN).
He also referred to Germany’s support for the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Reform Programme (TVET Egypt), a nationwide initiative co-funded by the Egyptian government and the European Union (EU), as well as the efforts under way to ensure quality education applied technology schools in Egypt.
Having signed a resolution to regulate the operation of German schools in Egypt, the two officials probed the possibility of transforming these schools (7 schools) into international establishments having a special nature.
Shawki and Hartmann have also discussed cooperation qualifying technical education students, teaching them the German language and culture at an early age, and offering them suitable jobs in Germany.
The meeting also tackled cooperation with the Goethe Institute in Cairo for translating mathematics and natural science exams to ensure their accuracy and set out relevant examination criteria.
