Cairo: The Egyptian Cabinet has approved a plan to transform seven technical schools into specialised applied technology institutions focusing on information and communications technology (ICT). This initiative is part of the country’s broader efforts to enhance technical education and equip students with skills relevant to the modern workforce.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Telecom Egypt has been tasked with overseeing the rehabilitation, operation, and management of these schools for six years, starting from the 2024/2025 fiscal year and continuing until 2029/2030. This assignment is a segment of the project’s third phase, emphasising the modernisation of technical education.
The agreement, which received the Cabinet’s approval following a request from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, positions Telecom Egypt as a central figure in this educational transformation. As part of its role, the company will provide each school with free fibre optic internet connectivity throughout the six-year period. This contribution includes both the necessary infrastructure and ongoing service provision, as outlined in a Cabinet statement.
In addition to managing school operations, Telecom Egypt is also responsible for selecting an academic partner in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, supervising this partner, and supplying staff as required during the contract period. This comprehensive involvement underscores the company’s commitment to enhancing the quality and reach of technical education in Egypt.
The project aligns with the government’s strategic objective to establish applied technology schools in every governorate, particularly focusing on regions currently lacking such institutions. This initiative aims to significantly improve technical education and better prepare students for the demands of the contemporary job market.
