Cairo: The Egyptian Cabinet has approved a plan to develop seven new technical schools into specialised applied technology institutions focusing on information and communications technology (ICT). This initiative aims to enhance the country’s technical education landscape and equip students with skills relevant to the modern workforce.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Telecom Egypt has been assigned to oversee the rehabilitation, operation, and management of these schools for a period of six years, spanning from the 2024/2025 fiscal year to 2029/2030. This assignment is part of the project’s third phase, following a request from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. The collaboration positions Telecom Egypt as a central player in the effort to modernise technical education across the nation.
Telecom Egypt’s responsibilities include providing free fibre optic internet connectivity to each school throughout the contract period. This contribution encompasses both infrastructure and service provision, as detailed in a Cabinet statement. The company will manage school operations, select an academic partner alongside the Ministry of Education, supervise this partnership, and offer necessary staffing support during the six-year term.
The overarching goal of the project is to establish applied technology schools in every governorate. The focus is particularly on regions lacking existing institutions, thereby improving technical education and ensuring students are prepared with skills demanded by today’s job market.
