Cairo: The army spokesperson announced on Wednesday 27/11/2024 that Minister of Defence and Military Production Abdel Mageed Saqr inspected several military units that will participate in an African Union mission. During his tour, Saqr was briefed on the detailed preparation procedures, including technical and administrative arrangements for the forces’ participation in the mission.
According to State Information Service Egypt, these preparations are being conducted using modern scientific methods, integrating the latest weapons, equipment, and advanced technological tools. The minister conveyed President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi’s greetings and appreciation to the troops. He also emphasized that the Egyptian Armed Forces’ participation in the UN mission reflects Egypt’s ongoing leadership on both the regional and international levels and its commitment to addressing global peace and security challenges and promoting the principles of peace and stability.
The Armed Forces are keen to support the region with the
latest capabilities in combat training fields, ensuring that the units set to participate in the African Union mission are fully prepared, Commander of the Central Military Region Major General Abdel-Motie Abdel-Aziz Alam stated during his speech. Minister Saqr also toured several training fields and educational facilities equipped with the most advanced resources for military preparation across various specialties.
Additionally, the Armed Forces commander-in-chief witnessed several training activities that demonstrated the forces’ high readiness level. This equips them to effectively carry out their mission of supporting security and stability while highlighting Egypt’s longstanding commitment to its African counterparts. The defense minister urged the participating personnel to embody discipline, commitment, and integrity. Moreover, Saqr described them as the best ambassadors of the Armed Forces abroad.
He affirmed that they carry out their duties with professionalism and excellence, strengthening Egypt’s
regional and global position and reflecting its commitment to promoting the noble values of humanity. Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces Lieutenant-General Ahmed Khalifa and several other military leaders were also present.
Cairo is a key supporter of the UN secretary-general’s Action for Peace (A4P) initiative, which aims to enhance the effectiveness of peacekeeping operations. Since 1960, Egypt has deployed over 30,000 uniformed peacekeepers to 38 UN missions in 24 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and Europe, an Egyptian official diplomat stated in 2023. Egypt is the sixth-largest contributor of uniformed personnel to UN peacekeeping missions, with over 2,800 military and police personnel deployed in various regions worldwide, including Abyei, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, South Sudan, and Western Sahara.
