Egypt continues support to efforts to eliminate Daesh, dry up funding resources

Egypt stressed that it would continue to support efforts to eliminate Daesh terrorist group and dry up its sources of funding.

This came in Egypt’s speech delivered on Friday by Minister Plenipotentiary Mohamed Fouad, the director of the foreign ministry’s international counter-terrorism unit, during his participation in the Small Group Political Directors Meeting in Brussels as Egypt is a member of the Global Coalition to defeat Daesh.

Fouad pointed to the increasing terrorist threats in Africa, a matter that negatively impacts African countries’ security and their socio-economic efforts, asserting the importance of backing African countries’ capabilities in counter-terrorism fields.

Fouad referred to Egypt’s support to African countries in this domain and the opening of the Sahel and Sahara Counter-terrorism Centre in Cairo.

Egypt is committed to comprehensively dealing with terrorism by addressing its security, intellectual, and socio-economic dimensions.

The minister underlined the necessity of closely following the situation in Afghanistan and intensifying efforts in order not to be a hub for terror groups.
