Egypt, China satisfied with progress in strategic relations

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi have expressed satisfaction at the progress achieved in the strategic relations between the two countries in various fields.

This came during a meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meetings in New York as the two sides hailed the level of relations on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of establishing strategic partnership and the organization of political, economic, cultural and tourist activities.

Abdelatty conveyed the greetings of President Abdel Fattah el Sisi to Chinese president Xi Jinping while the Chinese foreign minister conveyed the greetings of the Chinese leader to president Sisi.

The Egyptian foreign minister hailed the participation of Chinese companies in mega projects in the New Administrative capital and New Alamein as well as Light Rail Train.

Abdelatty also hailed China’s support for the Palestinian cause and its call for de-escalation in Gaza and Leban
on. He called on the Security Council to take measures to end the cycle of violence in the Middle East.

On the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), the foreign minister said he discussed the issue with the Chinese foreign minister, adding that the water is a national security issue which cannot be abandoned.

He said that Egypt rejects all unilateral practices harming the interests of the downstream countries, Egypt and Sudan.

The two ministers reaffirmed the importance of pursuing coordination on regional and international issues of mutual concern in a way that serves the interest of the two countries.
