Egypt and Somalia Explore Enhanced Agricultural Cooperation.


Amman: Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk met with State Minister at Somalia’s Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation Asad Abdulrazak Mohamed to discuss ways to enhance joint cooperation. The meeting was held on the sidelines of the Regional Forum on Accelerating the Transformation of Food Systems in the Arab Region, held in the Jordanian capital, Amman.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Farouk reiterated President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s directives to provide comprehensive support to African nations and their peoples, emphasizing the strategic significance of Africa. He highlighted that the agricultural cooperation between Egypt and Somalia serves as an example of Arab and African solidarity, working towards shared goals like food security, rural development enhancement, and the exchange of expertise and knowledge.

Somalia stands to benefit from Egypt’s extensive experience in agriculture, particularly in areas such as water resource management, crop productivity improvemen
t, and pest and disease control. The cooperation could involve sending agricultural experts and organizing training courses for Somali farmers, according to the minister.

Additionally, Farouk mentioned the potential for collaboration in addressing climate change and its impacts, including drought and desertification, which pose significant threats to agriculture and food production.
