Freetown: Egypt’s Ambassador to Freetown, Rasha Suleiman, held discussions with Sierra Leone’s Agriculture Minister, Henry Kpaka, focusing on enhancing cooperation in agriculture and irrigation. The discussions aimed to build on the outcomes of Sierra Leone President Julius Maada Bio’s visit to Egypt from March 26-28.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the discussions emphasized the potential for joint cooperation and leveraging Egyptian expertise in agriculture and modern irrigation. The goal is to boost agricultural production efficiency and achieve food security in Sierra Leone. The talks also highlighted the importance of utilizing Egyptian know-how in agricultural manufacturing to enhance the value of Sierra Leone’s agricultural products, thereby supporting the national economy through sector development.
Ambassador Suleiman highlighted the crucial role of the private sector in agriculture, expressing eagerness to increase Egyptian investments in Sierra Leone for mutual benefit. She reaffirmed Egypt’s willingness to consider Sierra Leone’s requests for technical support in modern irrigation systems.
Suleiman also noted the potential for mutual benefits through the cultivation of water-intensive crops and the use of rainwater. These discussions are part of a memorandum of understanding between Egypt and Sierra Leone for scientific and technical cooperation in agriculture.
Both parties underscored the importance of identifying trade opportunities and strengthening economic relations between Egypt and Sierra Leone to benefit their respective populations.
