Egypt and Population Council Discuss Expansion of Family Planning and Healthcare Initiatives


Cairo: Minister of Health and Population, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, met with Rana Hajjeh, President of the Population Council in New York, and Nahla Abdel Tawab, the Council’s representative in Egypt, to explore collaboration in healthcare and family development initiatives.



According to State Information Service Egypt, discussions focused on developing safer and more effective contraceptive methods. Minister Abdel Ghaffar directed Egyptian research centres to partner with the Population Council’s Centre for Biomedical Research (CBR) on product development and local manufacturing to serve Egyptian and African markets.



The meeting also addressed enhancing family planning clinics, expanding public awareness campaigns on reproductive health, and conducting a feasibility study for integrating childcare facilities into primary healthcare units nationwide.



Additionally, officials explored scaling up mobile clinics to improve family planning access in high-density areas and workplaces, while strengthening financial sustainability and sharing Egypt’s healthcare reform expertise with Arab and African nations.
