Cairo: Egypt and the Philippines are exploring increased collaboration in healthcare, with a focus on leveraging the Philippines’ successful nursing model and expanding the Egyptian pharmaceutical trade. This initiative was discussed during a meeting on Sunday between Egyptian Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar and Philippine Ambassador to Egypt Ezzedin Tago.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the discussions centered on utilising the Philippines’ nursing expertise through training programmes and knowledge exchange. A proposal was put forward to bring Philippine nursing experts to Egypt to train local nurses, facilitating a direct and effective transfer of skills.
The two officials also explored potential collaboration in the pharmaceutical sector, including the possibility of exporting Egyptian pharmaceuticals to the Philippines. They discussed coordinating efforts between the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) and the Food and Drug Administration in the Philippines for registering the medicine.
Ambassador Tago expressed his gratitude for Egypt’s willingness to collaborate, noting the shared interests of both countries in improving healthcare. He also extended an invitation to Minister Abdel Ghaffar to attend the 7th Global Ministerial Summit on Patient Safety, taking place at the Asian Development Bank (ADB) Headquarters in Mandaluyong City, Metro Manila.
