Aqaba: Environment Minister Dr. Yasmine Fouad met with her Jordanian counterpart, Dr. Moawiya Al-Radaideh, to discuss regional environmental cooperation and Egypt’s achievements as chair of the Regional Organization for the Conservation of the Environment of the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden (PERSGA). The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 21st Ministerial Council session in Aqaba, where Egypt handed over the presidency to Jordan.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Dr. Fouad highlighted Egypt’s efforts in strengthening PERSGA’s structure, securing international funding, and integrating climate change with biodiversity conservation. She emphasized the importance of continued regional partnerships to ensure environmental sustainability.
Dr. Al-Radaideh praised Egypt’s leadership and reaffirmed Jordan’s commitment to building on its progress, securing funding, and enhancing regional cooperation to tackle challenges such as climate change and pollution.
Discussions also covered global environmental developments, including climate finance agreements from COP29 and biodiversity commitments from COP16. The ministers explored funding opportunities through the newly established Kunming Biodiversity Fund, which aims to support developing nations in implementing international biodiversity goals.
