Egypt and Italy Explore Enhanced Transport Cooperation


Cairo: Transport Minister Kamel El Wazir held a videoconferencing meeting with Italy’s Infrastructure and Transport Minister Matteo Salvini to discuss ways to foster transport cooperation between the two countries. The meeting, held on Saturday, was also attended by Michele Quaroni, Italian Ambassador to Egypt, and a host of respective officials.



According to State Information Service Egypt, El Wazir lauded the deeply-rooted ties between Egypt and Italy, voicing the ministry’s keenness to cement cooperation with local and international private sectors under the directives of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi. Both sides reviewed current discussions between the Transport Ministry and Italy’s state-owned railway holding company ‘Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane’ to run and operate high-speed rail in Egypt and the launch of the Ro-Ro line to connect Egypt with Italy.



The Minister also invited his Italian counterpart to visit Egypt and hold intensive talks to develop a roadmap for further future cooperation between the two countries in different fields.
