Egypt and Cyprus Strengthen Parliamentary Ties with MoU


Cairo: Speaker of the House of Representatives Hanafy Gebaly and Speaker of the Cypriot Parliament Anita Demetriou have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing parliamentary coordination between Egypt and Cyprus on issues of mutual concern. The MoU was signed during a meeting at the Parliament’s headquarters in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital.



According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting highlighted the importance of cooperation in various fields such as energy, electricity connection, and tourism. Speaker Gebaly emphasized Egypt’s consistent position on resolving the Cypriot crisis in line with United Nations resolutions. In response, Speaker Demetriou expressed her intent to strengthen the historical ties between the two nations, recognizing Egypt as a strategic partner due to its significant role in the region.



Demetriou also reaffirmed Cyprus’ backing of the two-state solution to the Palestinian issue, in accordance with UN resolutions, and emphasized Cyprus’ support for Egypt within the European Union context.
