Egypt and Cyprus Discuss Water Sector Partnerships


Cairo: Deputy Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, Sayed Ismail, held a virtual meeting with officials from the Cypriot Embassy in Egypt and Cyprus’s water sector to explore future collaboration opportunities. Ismail highlighted Egypt’s strategic plan to produce 9 million cubic meters of desalinated water per day by 2050, and 2.7 million cubic meters per day by 2030.



According to State Information Service Egypt, Ismail detailed the country’s progress in seawater desalination since 2014, including the completion of 125 desalination plants with a total capacity of 1.31 million cubic meters per day, alongside ongoing projects. The Deputy Minister emphasized Egypt’s readiness to share expertise in water management and desalination, noting significant investments made with development partners and private investors.



He expressed commitment to strengthening cooperation with Cyprus in water supply, wastewater treatment, and desalination projects in the future.
