Cairo: Egypt is one of the pioneering nations to implement nature-based solutions (NbS) across its North Coast and Nile Delta, spanning seven governorates, as stated by Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad. The minister highlighted this achievement during the launch of a new discussion paper by the global ENACT Partnership at the United Nations Biodiversity Conference (COP16).
According to State Information Service Egypt, the discussion paper presents three policy proposals aimed at ensuring that NbS effectively tackle the interconnected challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss, and land degradation. Minister Fouad underscored the significant advancements made this year in activating and expanding the NbS initiative, which has grown its network of participating countries since its inception at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP27) held in Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt, in November 2022.
Further, the initiative has strengthened its collaborations on Biodiversity Day at COP28 and subsequently launched its
inaugural report at the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-6), marking another milestone in its ongoing efforts to address environmental challenges.
