The Egyptian Electricity Holding Company (EEHC) announced specific starting times for any necessary reduction of electricity loads – to take place in the 20-minute period between 10 mins before the top of the hour and 10 mins after the top of the hour.
In a statement on Saturday 22/07/2023, the EEHC asked the public not to use elevators during this 20-minute window of time in order to ensure their safety.
The company stressed that any interruptions in power would last no longer than one hour.
On Wednesday, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said recent power outages were caused by increased consumption triggered by the intense heatwave the country has been witnessing.
Increased electricity demand has strained the country’s natural gas network which supplies the power plants, Madbouly explained.
“We are currently implementing a temporary load reduction to reduce pressure on the country’s gas network,” the prime minister said during the weekly cabinet meeting.
In the meeting, Madbouly added that “the load reductions will continue until the middle of next week.”
