EDUCATION MINISTER CELEBRATES NAMING OF JEAN OBEID SCHOOL IN TRIPOLI’S AL-MINA


Caretaker Minister of Education, Abbas Halabi, on Wednesday represented House Speaker, Nabih Berri, and Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, at a ceremony naming Jean Obeid Official Mixed Intermediate School in Al-Mina, Tripoli.

Minister Halabi praised late Minister Jean Obeid’s legacy, emphasizing his dedication to uniting Lebanese communities. He highlighted Obeid’s contributions to education, including his introduction of new curricula in 1997 and his vision for inclusive religious education.

Obeid’s profound understanding of sacred texts and his promotion of love and peace through spiritual values were also acknowledged by Minister Halabi, who shared anecdotes illustrating Obeid’s influence, including his close relationship with late Kamal Jumblatt.

The ceremony concluded with a call to honor Obeid’s memory through an annual competition at the school, inspiring students to embody his values of culture, openness, and patriotism. Gratitude was extended to the Ministry of Education, the city of Al-Mina, Tripoli,
and all contributors to the naming of the school.
