Dust storm triggers weather warnings across south

A dust storm struck the city of Aqaba on Tuesday sharply reducing visibility and triggering weather warnings across the southern region, according to the meteorology department. Director of the department Raed Al-Khattab said that dust in the air will gradually increase, reducing visibility to zero in some regions, especially the desert and Badia. He told Petra in an interview that conditions will gradually become dusty during the night in many regions of the Kingdom, as horizontal visibility will clearly drop with a chance for rain showers during the night hours in the eastern regions. Muddy rain showers will fall in some areas during evening and night hours but the storm will end tomorrow, adding that there are no signs large hail stones will fall. Menawhile, the Ministry of Local Administration declared a medium state of emergency in the governorates of Karak, Madaba and Balqa, urging municipalities and service councils to go on alert and open emergency rooms to respond to any emergencies. Since this morning, the meteorology department has issued warnings of possible flash floods in valleys and low-lying areas, especially the Dead Sea, sliding roads and low horizontal visibility due to dust.
