DUBAI: The fourth edition of the Interpol Young Global Police Leaders Programme (YGPLP), themed “Policing in the Age of Artificial Intelligence,” opened with Major General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansoori, Acting Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, Jrgen Stock, INTERPOL Secretary-General, and Dubai Police Assistant Commanders in attendance.
Hosted by Dubai Police and INTERPOL at the Officers’ Club, the four-day event features young police leaders from 34 INTERPOL member countries, along with a range of speakers, specialists, and experts from Dubai Police and international organisations.
The programme started with a video presentation reflecting on previous editions, including the first in Dubai in 2019, the second in 2022, and the third in India.
This year’s edition explores how AI can enhance police operations, improve community safety, and tackle various forms of crime.
Major General Al Mansoori highlighted Dubai Police’s role in fostering international cooperation. He emphasised the programme’s aim to advanc
e security, exchange knowledge, and develop young police leaders through specialised training.
Al Mansoori noted that Dubai Police is dedicated to providing resources and expertise to support young leaders and enhance their future readiness. He praised the collaboration with INTERPOL and the ongoing support from Lieutenant General Abdulla Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police.
INTERPOL Secretary-General Jrgen Stock expressed his pleasure at returning to Dubai, where the YGPLP concept was announced in 2018. He acknowledged the significant progress made and welcomed the young leaders, stressing the importance of AI in modern policing.
Stock outlined how AI enhances law enforcement and public safety, noting Dubai Police’s integration of AI in 29 administrative processes. He also highlighted INTERPOL’s 2023 guide on responsible AI innovation.
Dr. Madan Oberoi, Executive Director of Technology and Innovation at INTERPOL, welcomed participants and underscored the diverse expertise present. He rev
iewed the history of the YGPLP, noting past editions and their focus areas, including emerging trends and future skills for policing.
Engineer Major Khalifa Al Room, Vice President of the Dubai Police Young Leaders Council, emphasised the importance of practical knowledge and skills in shaping future leaders. He highlighted the council’s commitment to supporting young leaders and the YGPLP’s role in building communication and cooperation.
The first day concluded with a keynote lecture on future foresight skills, an orientation session with INTERPOL and Dubai Police leaders, and a brainstorming session on AI’s role in policing, criminal misuse, and community engagement.
