DUBAI: Dubai Event Security Committee affirmed that the committee had completed security preparations for the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 (WT20WC).

The tournament will kick off in the UAE tomorrow and run until the 20th of October. Matches will be held in both Dubai and Sharjah, with the Sharjah Cricket Stadium hosting the opening ceremony. The closing ceremony, which will recognise champions and acknowledge outstanding players, will take place at the Dubai International Stadium, marking a key milestone for this event, which is being staged for the first time in the region.

Major General Abdullah Ali Al Ghaithi, Assistant Commandant for Operations Affairs and Head of the Dubai Event Security Committee, emphasised that the UAE has secured its place as one of the world’s top nations in the organisation of large international events, owing to our wise leadership’s vision, a thorough work strategy, and considerable infrastructure and sports facility investments.

He stated that the UAE provides everything requir
ed to assure a unique experience for organising, participating in, and attending events, increasing its appeal as a prime destination for sports and athletes while providing a variety of options to fulfil a wide range of needs.

Maj. Gen. Al Ghaithi noted that the UAE is the ideal host for global athletic events due to its remarkable infrastructure, durability, outstanding facilities, and breathtaking natural and tourism attractions. He reconfirmed that the Dubai Event Security Committee is completely prepared to host and secure the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, particularly given the anticipated enormous throngs of supporters.

Maj. Gen. Al Ghaithi stated that a complete security strategy will be established to ensure safety both inside and outside the venue, as well as the deployment of security patrols to allow fans and players easy access. He pointed out that the goal is to promote Dubai and the UAE as top destinations for big global events and championships, emphasising their knowledge and abilities to org
anise and secure international events.

The Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 will last 18 days and feature 23 matches in both Dubai and Sharjah. The semifinals are set for 17th October in Dubai and 18th October in Sharjah, with the final taking place on 20th October in Dubai. The participating teams are grouped into two categories: Group A features six-time world champion Australia, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, while Group B includes Bangladesh, England, South Africa, the West Indies, and Scotland.
