Dubai Customs showcases 8 innovative initiatives at GITEX Global 2024


DUBAI: Dubai Customs is showcasing eight innovative initiatives that rely on advanced technologies and artificial intelligence solutions at the 44th edition of GITEX Global, the world’s largest technology and startup event, held from 14th to 18th October 2024, at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

Through its participation, the government department will highlight its digital and innovative services and systems, which help accelerate customs processes and reflect its vision of being the ‘world’s leading customs administration supporting legitimate trade.’

Dubai Customs’ projects include several key initiatives. The “Seamless Inspections” initiative is a unique effort to accelerate customs inspection processes.

“Al Munasiq” is a specialised app developed using advanced artificial intelligence (GenAI) to assign the correct Harmonised System (HS) codes for customer goods.

The “K9 Sustainable Vehicle” supports customs inspection operations at customs centers to enhance protection against contraband smuggling.

itionally, the “Octa” platform acts as a personal customs assistant, powered by AI, to answer customer inquiries related to customs and trade in Dubai.

The “Shahin” project enables electronic shipment tracking between Dubai’s ports by installing an electronic lead seal. Visitors will also have the opportunity to experience a virtual simulation of customs procedures for cargo clearance.

Dr. Abdulla Mohammed Busenad, Director General of Dubai Customs, emphasised Dubai Customs’ eagerness to participate annually in GITEX, highlighting it as an opportunity to showcase Dubai Customs’ innovative digital transformation and the role it plays in automating customs services through advanced technologies.

He noted that this year’s participation would allow them to present initiatives and projects to the business community, trading companies, and logistics sectors, with the aim of exceeding expectations and enhancing the returns on their business activities.

Dr. Busenad pointed out that these initiatives align with Du
bai’s economic agenda by boosting foreign trade value. He also expressed excitement about meeting a wide range of experts, specialists, solution providers, and investors from across the globe, including diplomatic bodies and foreign business councils, during the event.

He stated, “GITEX serves as a perfect platform for exchanging insights on how technological shifts can simplify business operations, and it provides an important opportunity to showcase the smart customs procedures and services offered by Dubai Customs to visitors and business owners both locally and internationally.”
