A drop in the prices of fresh chicken, fruits and vegetables resulted in a decrease in the overall consumer price index (CPI) for Palestine during June by 0.35% compared with May, today said the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS). The decrease was 0.54% in Gaza Strip, 0.32% in the West Bank, and 0.17% in Jerusalem. Compared with June 2022, the CPI increased during June 2023 by 3.11% (3.57% in the West Bank, 3.13% in Jerusalem, and 1.64% in Gaza Strip). The Palestinian CPI during the first half of 2023 increased by 3.82% compared with the same period of the previous year (an increase of 4.43% in the West Bank, 3.99% in Jerusalem, and 1.77% in the Gaza Strip), said the PCBS. The changes in Palestinian CPI during June 2023 were traced back to changes in prices of the following expenditure subgroups compared with the previous month: Sub Groups Percent Change Fresh Chicken – 8.56% Fresh Fruits – 4.07% Fresh Vegetables – 1.62% Dried Vegetables + 12.77% Potatoes + 9.82% Eggs + 7.41% Fresh Meat + 0.97%
