‘Documentation of Traditional Medicinal Knowledge in Jordan’ Project concluded

Jordan Society for Scientific Research, Entrepreneurship, and Creativity (JSSREC) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) – Small Grants Programme, announced conclusion of “Documentation of Traditional Medicinal Knowledge in Jordan ” project, which was implemented in a number of the Kingdom’s various governorates. Project activities were concluded during the JSSREC-UNDP closing workshop held on Saturday, which saw participation of government representatives, NGOs, specialists and partners. Speaking at the workshop, head of the project’s advisory body, former Minister of Agriculture, Mahmoud Duwairi, highlighted importance of preserving Jordan’s biodiversity at this time, as this sector faces “remarkable” dangers, primarily deterioration and poverty. For his part, representative of the UNDP Regional Office, Anas Khasawneh, referred to the current partnership between Jordan and UNDP and the agency’s keenness to support “pioneering and purposeful” enterprises, primarily medical knowledge documentation project, which achieved “outstanding” success and served a sector that receives interest of a “large” group of Jordanians and others. Khasawneh also noted UNDP has been working in Jordan since its establishment 30 years ago, with the aim of supporting local projects to create initiatives that protect environment and help people’s living capabilities, stressing the project’s importance in documenting and transferring Jordan’s traditional medical knowledge. Meanwhile, the project manager, Sabah Seifan, reviewed the one-year project’s outcomes and its role in achieving sustainable development goals by supporting and empowering local communities and providing opportunities for networking and cooperation among interested parties in documenting and using traditional Jordanian medical knowledge and the mechanism for benefiting from this data.
