ABU DHABI, The Department of Energy (DoE) continues its collaboration with the Department of Community Development (DCD) to support the Tadbeer initiative, which operates under the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE).
The DoE highlighted the success of the Tadbeer programme, the innovative initiative that provides sustainable energy and water use training to all domestic helpers in Abu Dhabi. It empowers them to support households across the Emirate by reducing their environmental impact and saving money on their utility bills.
Since October 2022, over 2,500 domestic helpers have received water and energy conservation training. In 2023, over 3,000 households will benefit from this initiative, which aligns with the DoE’s commitment to promoting energy and water efficiencies with innovative technology and methodologies in the production to distribution phases, while educating consumers on conservation and reuse.
Commenting on the initiative’s achievements, Ahmed Juma Al Falasi, Acting Executive Director of Energy Efficiency at DoE, said, “This initiative is a key step towards Abu Dhabi’s Demand Side Management 2030 strategy for a more sustainable environment. Households across Abu Dhabi are now benefiting from this programme. The ongoing work identified that domestic helpers can be major enablers of energy and water conservation in the household.
“We are thrilled to see the positive impact of the Tadbeer initiative on the people of Abu Dhabi and look forward to continued collaboration on future sustainability and environmentally friendly initiatives. We will continue to implement the directives of the wise leadership of the UAE, which aim to achieve long-term sustainability.”
Shaikha Alhosani, Executive Director of the Social Monitoring and Innovation Sector at the DCD, said that programmes such as this Domestic Helpers Training Programme initiative can promote sustainable changes in behaviour and encourage investments in structural improvements for all community members in Abu Dhabi to enhance the quality of life. Modest behaviour adjustments can, over time, yield substantial energy and water savings on their own.
