ABU DHABI: The Department of Community Development (DCD), in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, the Department of Education and Knowledge, and the Emirates Schools Establishment, has launched the Sportsmanship Values initiative.
The initiative aims to create a positive sports environment focused on respect.
The DCD seeks to encourage participation in sports and physical activities across various cultures, promoting a healthy and active community.
The initiative’s goals include fostering respect for rules, officials, competitors, and society, and promoting sportsmanship, positive conduct, and ethical behaviour in both competitive and recreational settings.
The values also aim to create an inclusive sports environment that embraces diversity, promotes fair competition, and strengthens Abu Dhabi’s status as a leading sports destination.
Mohamed Helal Al Balooshi, Executive Director of the Community Engagement and Sports Sector at DCD, said, ‘The Sportsmanship Values reflect the core values of
Abu Dhabi society, which are based on respect, positivity, and strong morals. The initiative embodies the vision of our leadership, which fully supports athletes and encourages sports for all.’
He added, ‘Sports activity is key to building a healthy society. The DCD works with partners to enhance the culture of sports and physical activity, supporting both competitive and entertainment events. This includes promoting sportsmanship, respect, and friendship, ensuring all stakeholders understand their roles in fostering these values.’
Talal Al Hashemi, Executive Director of the Sports Development Sector at the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, expressed the Council’s support for the initiative, which reflects the values of tolerance and coexistence promoted by the leadership.
Sulaiman Al Kaabi, Executive Director of the Students’ Wellbeing Sector, highlighted the Ministry of Education’s commitment to embedding sportsmanship values in the education system, enhancing students’ physical and mental well-being.
The initi
ative encourages sports entities and professionals in Abu Dhabi to adopt these values, which include respect, safety, fairness, dignity, solidarity, and excellence.
